About GaiaLens
GaiaLens is a UK-based consultancy firm that provides a web-based application for institutional investors and financial services companies who want to put their money into ESG (ang. Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance).
The platform doesn’t allow investing. Instead, it provides information about publicly listed companies that help calculate factors for each pillar of the ESG. Plus, a main factor that Gaia Lens came up with to illustrate the ESG-based credibility of a given company. Based on these factors, the clients of Gala Lens have an opinion about how a given organization acts according to the environment guidelines, how it treats its employees, whether there are frauds, etc.
GaiaLens is using artificial intelligence to screen companies on greenwashing. AI is leveraged to provide detailed information on organizations that don’t meet ESG demands. GaiaLens already analysed 700 leading Australian companies in regard to their ESG credentials.
Migration and ESG Feature Development for GaiaLens
We were hired to rewrite the application from JavaScript to TypeScript. Also, we were responsible for creating attractive visual formats to present data to investors that were given to us by GaiaLens’s analysts. Also, we have done a live-service module when investors are prompted in real-time about actions of the companies from the investment portfolio and potential PR crises that could potentially burst from them.
We are also developing a frontend for the AI-based chat that allows users to load a .pdf file (the company’s public report, and talk with the chat about found data and overall information placed in a file. Users can ask about anything that’s in the file and they will get an instant answer about the inquiry.
We have also created and implemented a feature where users get a detailed report about a given company they are interested in or their own portfolio. This generates a great opportunity for summaries and presenting data to other executives to debate the portfolio and levels of investments.
Since GaiaLens operates of sustainability frameworks (each for the U.S. and Europe), it has an opportunity to generate metrics based on companies’ reports. We just took this idea a step further. Thanks to our feature, investors can directly compare information on ESG involvement, the number of work-related accidents in companies, etc.
We were also responsible for implementing a redesign of the application. Based on a new scheme delivered by the client, Code & Pepper implemented a completely new look to the platform.
We have also performed automatic tests.
At the time of creating this case study, the cooperation is ongoing.
Successful Implementation through Adaptation and Flexibility
Since GaiaLens is a startup, Code & Pepper was faced with multiple scope changes. The project heavily evolved, sometimes even on a monthly basis.
The need to adapt, shift gears, finish previously started feature development, and instantly focus on new priorities were paramount for the client.
